Dear bankers and insurance officers, while trying to meet targets fully explain what it entails to your clients or potential customers for whatever "policy" you have to involved them.
Don't be too selfish to hide information that will be crucial to them.
I just paid Access Bank 7,000+ naira for what I knew nothing about.
I don't really have the time I would have loved to take up this issue and follow suit. Hence, I let it slide.
I wanted to do agent banking in 2021 and I contacted Access Bank, Ikot Ekpene Branch and asked for the necessary requirements. The staff in charge of Agent banking there told me what I needed to do, of course I did. Unknown to me the guy had open two accounts with my name and I had already had an Access Bank accounts. Thus making my account three with the same bank. I had told him that I have an account already.
After the whole process, I got a notification for two accounts. I didn't fully understand. So, I approached him. Is this how it's done he said yes. I didn't further probe because, I never imagined he would do such as it was his official duty.
It took over a year before a terminal was bounded to me, up on till now, I have not even received it. I moved on.
What inspires this write up now is: I was just checking something through my Access Bank App. Then I got to accounts. While going through the accounts, I saw -7,256 in one of the accounts. I knew it was a debt. I know I don't borrow and I am not owing. So, I decided to go through the account types. I saw one of the accounts is a Premier savings account and the other High Interest Deposit Account (HIDA). And the debts is on the HIDA.
I quickly ran a search on Google to check why it is so. That is when I realized that an HIDA is not supposed to have an amount less than 5,000 naira. Hence, a penalty of 150 naira (I guess per a month). I had withdrawn all the money in that account because, I did not want to operate three accounts in the same bank. I have a personal account and agent's account. So, I did not see the need for a third account. I wanted to close the account. I did not have the time to go to the bank to officially do that. I just left it dormant.
Try to know your account type and what it entails. Some people are really trying to outsmart others. Try not to hide relevant information that could help a fellow human when it is in your power to do so.
